History
The school is located in the small village of Eastnor which is part of the Eastnor Estate and in an area of outstanding natural beauty. There has been a school in Eastnor since 1830. The Church of England foundation has been embedded in school life for centuries. The school site is a short walk from The Church of St John the Baptist.
The school consists of a single main school building which was built in the 1800’s and has been extended several times in the past when the numbers of pupils increased.
In 2024, the school was also “given” 1 School Cottage by the Eastnor Estate. This is one of the original small cottages in the village and has been fully refurbished by the school. This building is adjacent to the school and has a small kitchen, staff facilities and toilet on the ground floor and then a larger meeting room on the first floor.
What partnerships does our school have within the Diocese?
Partnerships with The Church of St John the Baptist Eastnor and St Michael & All Angels Church Ledbury are integral to our work as a Church of England School. In addition, the school links with Hereford Cathedral for Trust wide events of worship and celebration. In addition, the school has been part of the Diocese of Hereford Multi Academy Trust since 2018.
How do our values affect our choice of curriculum?
The school’s vision led the development of a curriculum which has been judged to be outstanding. The curriculum’s ambition, its inclusivity and the experiences children have beyond the classroom are exceptional. Pupils at our school are inspired by the opportunities they are given and achieve exceptionally well. Our ambition for each child is being realised.
Ofsted said, The curriculum is well-designed with clear guidance for staff to follow. This means that from Reception to Year 6, the right things are taught. Furthermore, because the school is clear about what pupils need to know in different subjects, assessment hits the mark. Nevertheless, the school is always looking for ways to do even better. To this end, its outward-looking approach steers staff to learn from best practice elsewhere. Membership of subject-specific organisations and attention to educational research helps staff keep up with current ideas. Leaders and staff know what is working well and what needs further adjustment. And this reflective, evaluative attitude and drive for ongoing improvement typifies leadership. It is another aspect that makes this school stand out.”
In terms of personal development Ofsted said, “the school’s high expectations and worthy values nurture all pupils and enable them to flourish. Pupils who pass through Eastnor Primary School are exceptionally well-prepared for life and learning at secondary school.”
Leaders have high expectations of pupils with SEND. As a result of this, all pupils receive excellent support and are fully included in all aspects of school life. Leaders support staff to make the right adaptations to the planned curriculum. This ensures that pupils with SEND experience the curriculum in line with their peers.
How do our values develop relationships with other schools, partners and the community?
Our vision says that we will ‘Do everything in love’ (Corinthians 16:14). Letting love guide our actions and words has been lived out by Eastnor Primary School over many years.
Friendship, compassion, perseverance, respect, forgiveness and trust have been values that have ensured collaborations with the wider Eastnor community, and beyond, have become strong and successful. These relationships which have been built on foundations of love and trust are reflected back into the school community on a daily basis.
Collaboration with our DHMAT partner schools and those in our locality as well work with local organisations such as RHS, the Ledbury Poetry Festival and Dementia UK are a notable feature of our work as a school and make what we offer our pupils distinctive.
As a result of the rich vision of the school and the work of its community, each child knows they are loved and loves in return. The warm, caring, trusting ethos that infuses every part of the school, its building, its people and its prayers leads to a school which ensures its vision is lived, every day.
