Hello and welcome to Year 2, where enthusiasm and discovery can be found in every part of the room. In Year 2, children are taught by Mr Marchant and supported by Mrs Layton, Mrs Young and Mrs Farnell.

Mr Marchant works hard with the children to ensure a smooth and happy transition from Year 1 whilst getting them prepared and ready for Key Stage 2. Promoting children’s confidence, self-worth and reflectiveness being at the forefront of our teaching. We are always thinking of others and how what we do effects the people around us. We love to hear all the variety of ideas that come from the children and how we can all learn from each other.

In our class, you will always see us with smiles of our faces whilst working hard to achieve our very best.

We work together on becoming innovators, investigators and explorers and whatever else our learning requires. The children in our class never lack enthusiasm when it comes to new learning experiences. Which can be found in abundance in Year 2.

We learn about all sorts of different topics ranging from famous people from the past and even explore what it was like to live in Eastnor village 100 years ago, with a special visit to Eastnor Castle.

We are inquisitive scientists, learning about Animals Including Humans. We learn about our survival essentials and investigate the similarities between people and animals.  We also learn about the human body and our five senses by carrying out investigations to test our own senses and their effectiveness. We like to greet each topic with plenty of energy and readiness. Not only are our topics full of excitement, some of the other opportunities around the school which take place are also as enjoyable. A particular favourite of ours being Forest School where the class can explore the beautiful surroundings of Eastnor and flourish in their investigative nature and what happens outdoors.

You will always find us working hard with smiles on our faces if you walked past the classroom.

Homework

Children can carry out learning at home and each have their own access to our Class 2 homework page on Seesaw. Activities are set half termly and include multiplication practise, and weekly spelling words to be revised at home.

For Year 2, the spellings include 'Common Misconception Words' – words that are spelled without using the normal spelling rules – that children in England are expected to be able to spell by the end of Year 2. We encourage all pupils to practise reading and writing these words and we love to see photos of what work they have been doing at home.

We also send home 2 reading books with the children for them to share with family members. All parents are asked to share a reading time with their child every evening.

Forest School and PE

Children at Eastnor love to spend time learning outdoors and a particular favourite with everyone is Forest School. The class are able to explore the beautiful surroundings of Eastnor and flourish in their investigative challenges at our Forest School site which is adjacent to the Deer Park.

Forest school takes place in weekly sessions on a Wednesday afternoon. Children are expected to bring waterproofs and wellies to school so they can make the most of those muddy puddles!

PE is enjoyed throughout the year and children in Year 1 and Year 2 enjoy learning through various different on a Friday.
