Class 2a (Year 1)
Welcome to Class 2a (Year 1)
Hello and welcome to class 2, where excitement and discovery can be found in every corner of the classroom.
In class 2, the Year 1 children are taught by Miss Morris with the support of Teaching Assistant Mrs Layton.
In our class, you can guarantee you will find us always working hard and giving every new opportunity our best efforts. We flourish on being thinkers, designers, team players, investigators and whatever else our learning may require. The children in our class never lack enthusiasm when it comes to new learning experiences. And wow, there sure are plenty of those throughout the year!
In year 1, we develop our phonics knowledge learnt in Reception, using the Little Wandle Phonics Scheme and apply this to our reading and writing.
We love to make our learning practical and make use of the local area. An example of this is through our learning in History where explore what it was like to live in Eastnor village 100 years ago, with a special visit to Eastnor Castle.
We are also inquisitive scientists and enjoy carrying our practical experiments and observations. In our Animals Including Humans topic we think about our survival essentials and investigate the similarities between people and animals, thinking carefully about our five senses and carrying out investigations to test their effectiveness.
Not only are our topics full of excitement, some of the other opportunities around the school which take place are also as enjoyable.
Miss Morris works hard with the children to ensure a smooth and happy transition into the next part of their journey at Eastnor School. Promoting children’s confidence, self-worth and reflectiveness lie at the heart of our teaching. We take time to be mindful and considerate of each other and enjoy sharing all sorts of experiences each child brings to the classroom.
We will always have a friendly smile to share if you visit.

Homework
Miss Morris loves to see what children have explored and discovered at home as well at school. Children can carry out learning at home and each have their own access to our Class 2 homework page on Seesaw.
Activities are set half termly and include multiplication practise, and weekly spelling words. These spellings are the 'Tricky Words' which cannot be phonetically decoded and have to be learnt through sight. Therefore, practising them at home and school helps these words to become embedded in their knowledge.
We also send home reading books with the children for them to share with family members. All parents are asked to share a reading time with their child every evening.
PE and Forest School
We enjoy our weekly PE lessons, which take place on a Friday morning. These lessons allow us to take our learning outdoors. PE lessons help us to develop many skills and also helps us to consider how important it is to look after our bodies.
Children at Eastnor love to spend time learning outdoors and a particular favourite with everyone is Forest School. The class are able to explore the beautiful surroundings of Eastnor and flourish in their investigative challenges at our Forest School site which is adjacent to the Deer Park.
Forest school takes place in weekly sessions on a Wednesday afternoon. Children are expected to bring waterproofs and wellies to school so they can make the most of those muddy puddles!
